Compiling the Pomor Encyclopaedia in the Arkhangelsk Region: History, Experience and Challenges

Abstract

This article dwells on the process of creating the five-volume Pomor Encyclopaedia. This regional encyclopaedia combines and structures current knowledge about the most significant events in the history, economy and culture of the Arkhangelsk Region, as well as about its geography and nature. The fundamental publication involved deep research into the key problems of Pomorye and can be credited with well-designed biographical entries and carefully selected bibliography. In addition, the authors highlight the difficulties that arose in the course of such a large-scale project.
