Abstract

The article reviews the book of the Serbian author M.B. Radon’ich which reveals the centuries-old frienship of two nations and assistance of Russians and Russia to Serbs and Serbia. The book explores the origins of Slavic civilisation, the shared roots of Russians and Serbs that were strengthened by the adoption of Christianity, the Serbian people’s struggle against Turkish rule, and Russia’s support in liberating Serbia from the Turkish yoke. The author of the book pays special attention to the relationship between Russians and Serbs in the 20th century: the origins of the First World War and cooperation during it; the Russian emigration to Yugoslavia and the relations between the USSR and the Kingdom of Yugoslaviya; the dramatic events of the Second World War and the joint struggle against fascism; the post-war relations between the two countries; the collapse of the USSR and Yugoslaviya; the assistance provided by post-Soviet Russia to Serbia during the NATO aggression. The current situation in relations between the two countries is characterised. The book is filled with gratitude to Russians and Russia for their centuries-old support of Serbia, and it contains hope for further development of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
