Abstract

The paper examines the specifics of using cognitive-corpus technologies to describe the structure of the subject area of climate change as a special concept sphere. The study is aimed at identifying the organisation of the conceptual space of this multidisciplinary area in English professional discourse. The aim of this study is to identify key concepts and to describe their frame structure and semantic relationships within the CLIMATE CHANGE conceptual framework. The scientific significance of this research lies in the development of an integrative frame model using corpus-based research methods. An automated search for distributional synonyms and terminological representatives implementing frames in the construction of cognitive profiles allows for a systematic presentation of knowledge about the phenomenon of “climate change” as a structure of interconnected concepts that simultaneously reflect natural scientific and social value aspects. The research methodology includes corpus analysis of English-language professional thematic glossaries (IPCC, UNFCCC), frame analysis of key concepts and the use of large language model algorithms for data systematisation. The main result of the work is the development of a frame model of the concept sphere CLIMATE CHANGE, the identification of distributional synonyms verbalizing the key concepts, as well as the description of their cognitive profile. The results obtained expand the understanding of the conceptual organisation of multidisciplinary subject areas and can be used to optimize professional communication in the field of the urgent problem of climate change. Since climate change is not only an environmental but also a socio-cultural problem of a global scale, its linguistic representation reflects the multiplicity of cognitive strategies, collective and individual assessments, which is of particular interest for integrative linguistic research. In addition, the work contributes to the development of methods for analysing specialized discourses, demonstrating the potential of the cognitive-corpus approach in studying complex conceptual spheres.
