The reviewed monograph includes 16 chapters authored by prominent specialists in general and special phraseology conducting research in the field of Slavic and Germanic linguistics (N.F. Alefirenko, O.B. Abakumova, Yu.V. Arkhangelskaya, J. Baghana, V.I. Karasik, M.L. Kovshova, A.R. Popova, A.M. Melerovich, V.M. Mokienko, T.N. Fedulenkova and W. Mieder) as well as their students and followers (V.I. Abramova, A.D. Bakina and E.V. Ryzhkina). The main problems discussed in this book are: general issues of modern phraseology developing in the era of linguistic postmodernism; specificity of phraseological concepts and phraseological means verbalizing them; national, cultural and functional features of phraseological units; phraseological semantics and cultural codes; specifics of modern phraseography; the universal and the specific in proverbs of different languages; proverbial compression; phraseological abbreviation, etc.
